To much of the world, Anthony Geary’s love life was forever linked to one of daytime television's most iconic weddings: General Hospital's Luke and Laura. But in real life, he was happily married to his husband.

The actor — who died on Dec. 14 at 78 years old — was married to his husband, Claudio Gama. In 2015, Geary and Gama moved to Amsterdam full-time after four decades of the actor portraying Luke Spencer on the long-running American daytime soap opera.

During a 2023 conversation with Soap Opera Digest, Geary opened up about life after General Hospital, crediting it for giving him the "wonderful life" he had.

"I live in the city that I’ve always wanted to live in my whole life and I have somebody who loves me and I have a life now, that I didn’t have before, no matter how many fan letters or Emmys or how many pages of dialogue to learn," he said. "I didn’t have what I have now. So, everything happened at the right time, I guess."

On Dec. 15, Gama confirmed his husband's death to TV Insider, saying he had lost his "companion" of over 30 years following complications from an operation a few days earlier.

So, who was Anthony Geary's husband? Here's everything to know about Claudio Gama and his relationship with the late General Hospital actor.

In February 2025, Gama shared on Instagram that he and Geary were celebrating two big anniversaries that month: 30 years since they met and six years since they got married.

A few days later, Gama shared in another Instagram post that they were in "full party mode" for their anniversary, as they were celebrating with "good friends," "nice booze" and "pizza."

After Geary retired from General Hospital in 2015, he and Gama relocated to Amsterdam, where the actor had been living part-time during his later years on the soap opera.

"I'm excited to raise the curtain on act 3, to reinvent myself in my new home to pursue whatever opportunity there may be. It's an exciting prospect to me," he told Entertainment Weekly in 2015.

Gama regularly shared glimpses of their life in Amsterdam on social media, including celebrating the Dutch holiday Sinterklaas just a few days before Geary's death.

Gama confirmed Geary's Dec. 14 death in a statement to TV Insider, saying, "It was a shock for me and our families and our friends."

"For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband," he continued.

In a statement shared with PEOPLE on Dec. 15, General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini said the "entire General Hospital family is heartbroken" over the news.

"Tony was a brilliant actor and set the bar that we continue to strive for," Valentini continued. "His legacy, and that of Luke Spencer's, will live on through the generations of GH cast members who have followed in his footsteps. We send our sincerest sympathies to his husband, Claudio, family, and friends. May he rest in peace."

A cause of death has not yet been determined, but TV Insider reports that he died following complications from an operation three days earlier.
