Ben Shelton is shouting out his girlfriend, Trinity Rodman — and the “insane” lengths she went to support him at the US Open in New York City.
Moments after falling to Alexander Zverev in the men’s singles final on Sunday, Sept. 13, 6-3, 7-6(2), 5-7, 6-2, Shelton spoke about the soccer star’s travel feat that began in Washington, D.C.
“It means everything,” Shelton, 23, said. “I knew she was coming — I knew it was going to be pretty close to impossible to get here.”
He added, “Even making the effort and trying is insane.”
For Rodman, 24, catching some of Shelton’s match meant starting the day in the nation’s capital, where her team, the Washington Spirit, played the Boston Legacy at Audi Field in a 1 p.m. ET start.
One hour later, Shelton’s match against Zverev, 29, began at Arthur Ashe Stadium, approximately 230-plus miles away.
Yet the Spirit forward made it happen, playing the entire game before seemingly teleporting herself to Flushing Meadows, Queens. (It is not immediately clear how she traveled to N.Y.C.)

“She kind of showed up as I was losing,” Shelton said, “which for her probably sucked.”

After the match, Shelton thanked his team for their support as a camera panned to an emotional Rodman, who was wearing a graphic T-shirt bearing her boyfriend’s face.
“To my squad over here in this corner, every one of you guys is so special in your own way,” Shelton said, while Rodman clapped and wiped tears from her eyes. “You guys showed up to support me or have shown up to support me every day of my career. I appreciate you guys. Love you, guys.”
In his on-the-court speech, even Zverev had questions about Rodman’s itinerary.

“Trinity, I thought you have a game today,” Zverev joked. “Well done to you as well. You’re the lucky charm ... not today, but usually.”
Later, Shelton elaborated on his girlfriend’s steadfast encouragement.
“We’ve made a lot of sacrifices for each other,” Shelton said. “We’ve traveled the world to try to support each other.”
Shelton and Rodman went public with their relationship in March 2025.
