Holland explained that the actors were shooting a scene that they had already filmed with the camera pointed on him. They were going again, with the cameras now turned on Zendaya, when he began to feel that something wasn't quite right.

"We're doing her coverage— and I would never ever dream of saying this to an actress that I wasn't with," Holland began, "so I said, 'Do you think that this scene is working?' And she was like, 'No. I don't think the scene is working at all.'"

Bolstered, Holland took their query to the producers and asked again, "Do you think the scene is working?"

When they agreed that it wasn't falling into place, he replied, "Yeah, me and Z are really not feeling it."

Holland then approached director Destin Daniel Cretton and told him, "'Hey, man, listen, I know we've been shooting for hours and I hate to tell you this, but I just, I don't think that this scene is working. Z and I— what we're supposed to feel, we're not feeling it in the moment.'"

Holland praised Cretton for hearing him out and remaining "calm" as he heard their concerns. "He said to the crew, 'Everyone can go home and we're gonna sit down and rewrite this scene."

Holland said that the very next day, they reshot the scene, adding, "I'm so glad that we did because it sings in the movie."

Along with praising Cretton for being so open, Holland credited the adjustment to the trust he shares with Zendaya, pointing out that he never would have posed the question had he been working with anyone else.

"It was just so funny, I was thinking about, like, if this wasn't Zendaya that I was sitting across from… imagine on someone else's coverage being like, 'Do you think this is working?,'" he said, asking the question with a mocking tone.

Elsewhere in his conversation with Poehler, Holland praised Zendaya's work outside of their collaborations, pointing to* The Drama *and season 3 of *Euphoria* as recent examples of her talent.

"What I love about watching her work as an actress is she's just fearless. She's just like absolutely 10 toes down, I'm gonna give this everything," Holland said. "When you watch her as Rue, she could not be more different to who she is in real life. And then if you see her as Emma in *The Drama*, it's just such a different performance, but with no less intent or passion or drive."
