Tom Holland credits his real-life relationship with Zendaya for enhancing their on-screen chemistry in Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Holland and Zendaya raised concerns about a scene, leading to a rewrite that improved the final version of the film

Holland praised Zendaya as "fearless" and one of the best actors, highlighting his admiration for her talent and work ethic

Tom Holland's comfort with Zendaya can lead to some major on-screen magic.

The 30-year-old British actor discussed his chemistry with his real-life partner both on and off the screen.

“I couldn't imagine doing what I do without her,” Holland said of Zendaya, 29, on the Tuesday, June 2 episode of Amy Poehler's Good Hang podcast. “We had an amazing moment on Spider-Man: Brand New Day. And it's only because of our relationship that this happened.”

While shooting a scene in the upcoming action blockbuster, Holland said that they had already filmed his side of the scene before the camera turned on Zendaya.

“We're doing her coverage, and I would never ever dream of saying this to an actress that I wasn't with,” Holland explained, before continuing, “So I said, ‘Do you think that this scene is working?' And she was like, ‘No, I don't think the scene is working at all.' So I then went to the producers and asked, ‘Do you think the scene is working?' “

After the producers agreed that the scene wasn't working, Holland approached director Destin Daniel Cretton, telling him, “ ‘Hey, man, listen, I know we've been shooting for hours and I hate to tell you this, but I just, I don't think that this scene is working. Z and I, like what we're supposed to feel, we're not feeling it in the moment.' ”

Holland praised Creton's ability to stay “calm,” noting that the director listened to their concerns before sending the rest of the team home before rewriting the scene with one of the writers.

“We came in the next day, we reshot the scene, and I'm so glad that we did because it sings in the movie,” Holland shared.

However, the Odyssey actor noted that he wouldn't dream of posing the question to an actress he was not romantically linked to in real life.

“It was just so funny, like, I was thinking about, like, if this wasn't Zendaya that I was sitting across from, imagine on someone else's coverage being like, ‘Do you think this is working?' ” he quipped, adopting a judgmental tone.

And their trust comes, in part, from Holland's respect for the Euphoria star.

“I think she's I think she's the best actor going,” he gushed. “I really think she has something special.”

He added, “What I love about watching her work as an actress is she's just fearless.”
