Tom Holland is ready to go to war for *The Odyssey*.
The actor is bracing for a blockbuster July, between the releases of *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* and Christopher Nolan's *The Odyssey*, the big screen adaptation of Homer's iconic Greek epic.
"I can tell you that it is an absolute masterpiece, and Iām taking myself out of that equation," Holland tells *GQ* of *The Odyssey*. "Chris Nolanās movie is fantastic. Itās unlike anything that Iāve ever seen before. I think when I saw the movie, I found myself asking a question that I havenāt asked about a movie for a long time, which is, 'How did you do that?'"
Holland went on to praise Nolan's use of practical filmmaking and the elevated set pieces and sequences.
"Even as someone that was there on the day and was in the film, I was absolutely blown away by the scale, the scope, his ability to navigate such an intricate and heartfelt story in the middle of this insane kind of action movie," Holland continued. "So itās one of my proudest achievements as an actor and Iām so touched that Chris gave me the opportunity to be in the film. And I really think that people are going to be floored."
Matt Damon leads *The Odyssey* as Odysseus, the king of Ithaca, who the film follows on his 10-year trek home following the Trojan War. Holland stars as Telemachus, the son of Odysseus and Penelope (Anne Hathaway), who, in Homer's original literature, eventually leaves Ithaca to seek information about his father's whereabouts and fate.

"We spent so much time together, and what Iām really grateful for with Matt is that he is exactly what I would have hoped he would be like," Holland said of his onscreen dad. "He was a leader. This was a very tough movie and no one worked harder than Matt did. And I think he really set the tone for everyone as to how we were going to collectively make this film."
Holland added, "There are words of wisdom that heās given me that Iāll keep to myself, but thereās a lot that I learned from him from just being a spectator on set and watching the legend that is Matt Damon work."
*The Odyssey* sails into theaters on July 17.
