Sofia Coppola discussed her 19-year-old daughter Romy's viral TikTok presence in a recent interview with Elle about the Oscar winner's first documentary, Marc by Sofia

Sofia Coppola is in full support of her daughter Romy's online presence.
In a recent interview with Elle about her first documentary Marc by Sofia, the filmmaker, 54, discussed her eldest daughter, whom Coppola shared with husband Thomas Mars. In recent years, the 19-year-old has built up her own celebrity as a social media star, starting with a viral TikTok posted in 2023. In the video, Romy revealed she was grounded at home for trying to charter a helicopter from New York to Maryland for dinner.
She's since garnered over 700,000 followers on the platform, where she regularly shares vlog-style content, funny videos and even once tapped Jacob Elordi to help her make a dance trend video in September 2025.

Speaking to Elle, Coppola applauded her daughter for her "really funny sense of humor," especially compared to herself when she was younger and known as a "daughter-of" filmmakers Eleanor and Francis Ford Coppola.
"I was wanting to make it on my own, where she is relaxed about turning it on its head. It’s just a totally different attitude," said The Virgin Suicides director, who also shares daughter Cosima, 15, with her musician husband.

Speaking to the outlet about Romy, Coppola referred to her daughter's online presence as a "persona," adding, “She’s a performer in a way that’s really fun for me to see.” The mom of two even admitted to Elle that she would probably be making TikToks if she were Romy's age today.
In addition to her social media pursuits, the teen also has a music career, a la her dad, who is the lead singer of Phoenix. She first debuted her singing talents in May 2024 with the release of her singles “Stuck Up” and “From a Distance.”

In June 2025, she released a music video for her single “A-Lister,” a pop song she co-wrote that features tongue-in-cheek commentary on the surface-level lifestyles of the rich and famous. She sings, “I love this golden sunny West Coast/Sceney plastic world/I miss being a real girl, sure/But I’m not a real girl anymore."
