A source told PEOPLE that the couple took time off work to focus on their baby and are said to be thrilled about parenthood
Lady Gaga previously discussed what kind of mother she’d be before welcoming her first baby.
Before news broke on Friday, Sept. 11, that the “Born This Way” singer, 40, and her fiancé Michael Polansky, 42, had welcomed their first baby together, Gaga appeared on The Howard Stern Show in July 2025 in the midst of her Mayhem Ball tour.
Asked if she planned to take a step back from spotlight once she had a baby, Gaga said she wasn’t sure and would need to see what her life would be like.
“Disappear? I don’t think so. But look, I think music will be a part of our child’s life,” the musician and actress replied. “I also have to see what it’s like and what our kid needs, you know?”

She went on to share that her priorities would probably shift if and when she welcomed a baby.

“I just really want them to have a very safe and happy childhood, so you’re not wrong that that will become my No. 1 priority,” said Gaga in response to Stern guessing that she’d go “all-in” on family time. “You’re actually right on the money with that.”
PEOPLE confirmed last week that Gaga and Polansky had welcomed a child. The pair were first linked in 2020 when they were photographed kissing at a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas, and in July 2024, Gaga revealed she was engaged to Polansky while speaking with French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal at the Paris Olympics.

Shortly after news broke, a source told PEOPLE exclusively that they “both beam when they talk about being parents.”
“Michael seems lighter, happier,” the insider added specifically of the Mayhem artist’s fiancé. According to the source, Gaga and Polansky “both took time off of work this summer to be with [the] baby.”
In a December 2019 YouTube video with NikkieTutorials, the “How Bad Do U Want Me” musician said her 10-year plan included having children. “I want to do more movies. I want to have babies,” she said at the time.
Less than a year later, during a March 2020 interview with InStyle, Gaga doubled down on her desire to become a mom, telling the outlet, “I will say I am very excited to have kids. I look forward to being a mom. Isn’t it incredible what we can do? We can hold a human inside and grow it. Then it comes out, and it’s our job to keep it alive.”
