Pre-Market Stock Futures:
Futures are trading lower as we prepare for a trading week that may include an interest rate hike after the core consumer price index number came in higher than expected last Friday. Despite the CPI uptick, stocks rallied Friday after a four-day losing streak, and all major indices finished higher, with the legacy Dow Jones Industrial Average leading the way, closing up 0.98% at 52,573, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq close behind, finishing at 26,333, up 0.96%. The S&P 500 closed Friday at 7,656, up 0.86%, while the small-cap Russell 2000 was last seen at 2,903, up 0.45%.
With inflation and jobs data out of the way, all that remains is the Federal Reserve meeting this week, where it will decide whether to raise rates or keep them where they are. The odds favor a 25-basis-point (1/4 %) increase and have risen to 70% from 50/50 just a week ago.
Treasury Bonds:
Yields were modestly higher across the Treasury curve as traders reacted to the inflation numbers, a strengthening U.S. dollar, and the potential for a rate hike in a few days. When the final bell rang, the 30-year bond closed Friday at 5.36%, while the benchmark 10-year note closed at 4.97%.

Oil and Gas:
For the first time in days, the energy complex took a breather, and the stock market obviously appreciated it. Brent Crude closed at $104.80, down 2.64%, while West Texas Intermediate closed at $100.30, down 2.15%. Natural Gas closed down the session at $2.82, down 0.49%. With a prediction for a mild autumn and winter for much of the world, prices could start to retreat, especially with any resolution to the Iran situation.
Gold:
After heading lower at the start of the day, the precious metals reversed higher around noon and finished Friday on a positive note, with gold closing at $4,347 up 0.74%, while Silver closed at $64.35 up 1.46%.
Crypto:
Cryptocurrency markets were volatile on Friday, ahead of the Fed decision on Wednesday. Bitcoin opened at $76,535.95, down 2.2% from Thursday and its lowest in about two weeks, as more analysts priced in a rate hike. Ethereum also dipped before recovering to around $2,468–$2,600 intraday, up roughly 2–4%. But Bitcoin stayed under pressure rather than rebounding; Ethereum traded well above $2,600 several times this year, including an all-time high above $6,000 in October 2025. At 8 AM EDT, Bitcoin was trading at $77,680, while Ethereum was trading at $2,507.
