Donald Trump drew attention to his right hand during a public appearance in Ireland, where a conspicuous patch of makeup appeared to mask the recurring bruise. The cosmetic cover-up did little to hide the discoloration, with parts of the purple and red coloring still visible around its edges.

Trump visited the Amgen Irish Open golf tournament Sunday at Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare. He arrived two days after his appearance at a September 11 memorial (via The Daily Beast).

The hand quickly became a talking point. Trump covered a coaster-sized section of his right hand with beige makeup, choosing a shade closer to his natural skin tone than some of his earlier attempts to conceal the bruise. Still, the thick cosmetic layer created a waxy look, while the surrounding skin appeared swollen.

However, the purple and reddish marks remained visible near the borders of the makeup, making the apparent injury difficult to overlook. Trump and White House representatives have previously attributed the bruising to his frequent handshakes and his daily aspirin use.

Trump has taken 325 milligrams of aspirin each day for 25 years. That explanation faced another complication when similar discoloration appeared on Trump’s left hand, despite his being right-handed.

Questions about Trump’s physical condition have followed him throughout his second presidency. At 80, he is the oldest person to take the presidential oath, and observers have repeatedly noticed swelling around his ankles. He has also been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can make it harder for blood to travel back toward the heart from the lower legs.

His appearance at Friday’s Pentagon memorial reportedly brought those concerns back into focus. Trump appeared to have a pronounced droop on the right side of his face and seemed to experience difficulty staying awake.
