Buckingham Palace Confirms King Charles’s State Visit to the U.S.

After much speculation over whether or not the trip would be canceled, Buckingham Palace confirmed today that King Charles and Queen Camilla will, indeed, be making a state visit to the U.S. this April.

“On advice of His Majesty’s Government, and at the invitation of The President of the United States, The King and Queen will undertake a State Visit to the United States of America,” the Palace wrote. “Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence.”

While no specific dates have been shared by the Palace, the Times previously reported that the King is set to travel to the States from April 27 through 29, and will spend one day in Washington, D.C., one in New York City, and one in a “rural” location. After the U.S., the Palace revealed, King Charles will then make a solo trip to Bermuda, and the Bermuda Government has already announced he will be there April 30 through May 2, which places Charles’s visit to the U.S. at the end of April.

This past September, Trump undertook an unprecedented second state visit to the UK. “They’re friends of mine for a long time, long before he was King, and it’s an honor to have him as King,” Trump said at the time of Charles and Camilla. “I think he represents the country so well, I’ve watched, he’s such an elegant gentleman.”

This will be King Charles’s first State Visit to the United States as King; Queen Elizabeth II undertook four State Visits to the U.S. in 1957, 1976, 1991 and 2007. As Prince of Wales, Charles visited the United States 19 times.
