A 7-year-old boy is being praised for his heroics after saving a friend who started choking during lunch.
Bryson Campbell, a student at Oak Forest Elementary in Vidor, Texas, was sitting at a lunch table on Tuesday, April 7, when he noticed something was not right with his friend, who had tears in his eyes and wasn't breathing, according to KBMT-TV.
Bryson said he actually realized what was going on thanks to his friend, who tapped him on the shoulder to alert him.
That’s when Bryson “jumped right into action” and “quickly began patting his friend on the back to help dislodge what was stuck,” school officials said in a Facebook post.
Alisha Campbell, Bryson's mother, said teachers told her that Bryson had already had the situation under control before they could step in.
As for how he knew what to do, she told KMBT-TV that she learned CPR while teaching at a local daycare and decided to pass on some of her knowledge to her family, including Bryson.

"It's funny how something so small that you can teach your kids can have such a huge impact,” she explained, “and you never know when it'll come in handy."
