Cape Fear also stars Javier Bardem and Patrick Wilson and is an adaptation of the 1957 novel The Executioners, which was first made into a film in 1962 and then adapted in 1991 by Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
Per an IMDb synopsis, Cape Feartells the story of a notorious killer (Bardem) who is released from prison, seeking revenge on a couple from his past (Adams and Wilson) and their daughter (Collias).
Collias' role was played by Juliette Lewis in the 1991 version, and the part earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the age of just 17.
At the premiere, Collias admits she was aware of the “big" shoes she was stepping into with Lewis' role.
“Juliette is so magical and perfect in that film,” she tells PEOPLE. “Her character has these aspects of youthfulness and secrecy.”

The actress also notes that she paid homage to Lewis' depiction of the character of Danielle by also having bangs during filming, but apart from that, she tried to forge her own path with the part.
“I had to kind of go on my own path without comparing anything,” Collias tells PEOPLE.
While speaking to PEOPLE at Tuesday's premiere, Oscar winner Adams also touched upon the ways in which her role of Anna Bowden mirrored the earlier versions, noting that hers is “very different” from the others, but they do share the same “southern steeliness.”
“I absolutely love sort of a feminine woman, a steel magnolia if you will,” Adams says. "That intelligence and that strength and that fortitude and that need to protect your family. I hope that's all there.”

“I really wanted to please Steven. I just wanted to make sure he was happy with everything,” Adams tells PEOPLE, adding that she had “so much admiration” for the legendary director who “launched” her career.
“I’ve always in the back of my head wanted to make him proud," she insists, adding, "I hope to work with him again in the future. I think he's fantastic."
