The *Coven* rides again!
*American Horror Story* season 13 is officially another season of the witches from Ryan Murphy's third season of the horror-anthology series. Murphy confirmed the news on Wednesday over social media with a first look at Sarah Paulson's return as Cordelia Goode.
"The Supreme Rises," the TV creator wrote. "And yes we have rebuilt the entire Robichaux Academy. Coming this September."
The new peek at the upcoming season follows a first glimpse at Jessica Lange returning to the *AHS* fold after years. This also seemingly confirms that Lange will be reprising her *Coven* role of Cordelia's mother, the former Supreme herself, Fiona Goode. (But more on that shortly.)
*AHS: Coven*, which premiered in 2013, is by far one of the more popular (if not the most popular) seasons of the show, given the witchy vibes, Southern gothic aesthetic, and camp-horror tone.
The witches notably returned in the eighth season, subtitled *Apocalypse*, to face the literal Antichrist (Cody Fern's Michael Langdon) and change history to prevent worldly annihilation. *AHS: Apocalypse* also officially connected the plot lines of its first season, *Murder House*, with the *Coven* setting.

Ryan Murphy teases next series as culmination of 'Nip/Tuck,' 'AHS,' and more (exclusive)

Lange portrayed both Constance Langdon in *Murder House* and *Apocalypse*, as well as Fiona in *Coven*. So there's a chance she could be playing Constance instead of Fiona this time around. Additionally, when last we saw Fiona, she was dead and stuck in her own personal hell with her ghostly axeman boyfriend (Danny Huston).
The witchy *Coven* and *Apocalypse* veterans returning for *AHS* 13 include Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, and Leslie Grossman. Ariana Grande also re-teams with Murphy after *Scream Queens*.

The 'Coven' witches arrive in 'AHS: Apocalypse'. FX
Plot details for season 13 are under wraps, but *Apocalypse* left us with the revelation that Lourde's Mallory, an extremely powerful pupil at Robichaux Academy, is destined to surpass Cordelia as the next Supreme.
According to Murphy's social media posts, filming on season 13 began earlier this week on April 6.
Lange's return is a big get for the season, given her long absence. Her last appearance was that brief *Apocalypse* return, though she headlined multiple early seasons.

When asked by an Irish radio station in a February 2025 interview whether she'd ever return, the storied actress replied, "Oh Christ, no. I mean, I haven't done it for more than 10 years, 12 years, so, no, I'm not doing it."
Leave it to the *Coven* girlies to pull off the impossible.
