Alex Jones calls for Trump's removal over Iran war, draft fears

As the U.S. war against Iran edges past 150 days, a controversial former ally of President Donald Trump is calling for his removal from office and warning of an impending draft.

Alex Jones, former host of InfoWars, said on his new show on the social platform X that Trump should be removed from office unless he “clarif(ies) that he’s not calling for a national draft” amid the ongoing war with Iran.

Here’s what you should know about Jones’ call for Trump’s removal from office.

War in Iran an 'impeachable' offense, Jones says

During a July 28 broadcast of the Alex Jones Show, Jones warned that the Trump administration is laying the groundwork for a national military draft guided by artificial intelligence, which he said will be implemented in December.

This, Jones argued, should be grounds for Trump’s removal from office, either through the 25th Amendment or impeachment.

“The big issue is how to stop Trump, and we have to have Congress go for the war powers,” Jones said, referencing Congress’ various failed attempts to pass a war powers resolution. “This is a war, they’re getting the draft ready. If this isn’t a war, nothing’s a war. I mean, this is absolutely out of control.”

Jones added: “And so I’m calling for it right now –– 25th Amendment, impeachment, whatever needs to happen to get this front and center, to get control of our country.”

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution details the removal of a president who is unable or unwilling to perform their duties. If the president is incapable of serving but does not voluntarily transfer power, they can be declared unable to hold the office by the vice president, along with a "majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide."

Jones further argued that the president’s support of the recently passed National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which critics say “merges” the U.S. and Israeli militaries, is also grounds for his removal. “It’s impeachable alone that the president’s supporting the NDAA,” Jones said.

The White House did not return USA TODAY’s request for comment on July 29.

Jones calls for ‘Nuremberg-style trials’

According to Jones, merely removing Trump from office wouldn’t go far enough. He said there “need to be Nuremberg-style trials” for those who voted in favor of the NDAA, which funds the continuation of the Iran war.

He also warned of an impending draft guided by AI, which will support a “massive ground invasion” culminating in “total war.” The administration, he argued, will then use that as a pretense to reshape American life.

“They want us in a total war so they can censor and take our freedoms, nationalize everything, and push us aside with AI – total liability, immunity, and protection.”

Jones is no stranger to propping up vast government conspiracies, which he claims will be used to usher in a dystopic future.

In 2022, Jones lost his InfoWars media empire in a $1.4 billion defamation lawsuit brought by the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting. At the time, Jones spread conspiracy theories about the shooting, claiming that the victims were “crisis actors” and the entire thing was a staged “false flag” to pass stricter gun control legislation under then-President Barack Obama.

He repackaged the talking point in his most recent comments, accusing the Trump administration of “tyranny.”

“This is a disaster,” Jones said. “We are facing tyranny, but the public’s awakening. We’ve got to come together and transcend left and right, and we have to say no to an expanded war that will definitely destroy the economy and kill a bunch of our troops.”

MAGA splits over Iran war

Jones’ recent comments echo other former Make America Great Again adherents who have broken with Trump over the war in Iran, including past comments from Jones himself.

Back in June, ousted Fox News host Tucker Carlson called the war “treasonous” and “immoral.”

“They are making decisions on the basis of other criteria, what’s best for this company, what’s best for Israel, what’s best for our donors,” Carlson said. “They are off in the wrong direction, like, that is unacceptable, that’s treasonous, it’s immoral, it can’t continue.”

Earlier this year, former Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene also split with the president on several key issues, including the war in Iran, prompting her to leave the Republican party altogether.

Trump also drew the ire from others in his orbit, including Jones, Carlson, Megyn Kelly and Candace Owens, when he threatened in a Truth Social post to destroy the entire Iranian civilization.

At the time, Jones posted to X, "The definition of genocide is destroying an entire civilization/people! Trump literally sounds like an unhinged super villain from a Marvel comic movie. This IS NOT WHAT WE VOTED FOR!!!"
