At least 28 people fell ill after eating food at a major sports stadium in Japan.
The incident occurred at Takebishi Stadium Kyoto on Saturday, Sept. 12, during the 74th Japan Corporate Teams Athletics Championships, according to local outlets Japan Today, Yomiuri Shimbun and Kyodo News.
A facility staffer made an emergency call at around 4:30 p.m. local time to report that multiple people were feeling unwell during the track-and-field event, per the outlets.
Reported symptoms included vomiting and diarrhea, according to the outlets.

The Kyoto City Fire Department said that 28 people, ranging in age from their teens to their 70s, were ultimately taken to the hospital. Two of those hospitalized — a man in his 70s and a woman in her 20s — were listed in serious condition, according to Yomiuri Shimbun and Kyodo News.

PEOPLE was unable to reach the Kyoto City Fire Department for comment regarding the incident.
According to stadium officials, all of those who became ill were event officials or staff members who ate the same catered meal provided by event organizers. Food poisoning is therefore suspected, per Japan Today, Yomiuri Shimbun and Kyodo News.

Stadium officials did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
